When I do, it’s generally going back a few days in time.

What I hate about TM is how it is constantly interrupting my work and backing up a ton of stuff that gets touched in my regular work.

So I’m really excited to have found this: http://timesoftware.free.fr/timemachineeditor/ free scheduling utility that lets me set the interval and even calendar for it.

This http://maketecheasier.com/change-your-time-machine-backup-interval/2009/06/05 shows how to edit the plist to just change the interval, which feels safer and simpler, if so inclined.

I’m going to try this for a bit at 12 hours instead of 1 and see how that feels.
