There’s nothing like grappling with shared printers and Windows 98 in a home network for a couple of 7s to make you appreciate the job of the IT department.
Win9x aside (please, please), the fact is that printing is still a remarkably hassle-filled drag for normal human beings who really don’t know about network layers and printer properties and re-installing drivers and weird voodoo to do.
It doesn’t help that printers are probably the device with the most moving parts, most exposed to dust and most designed for frequent replacement of expensive little ink cartridges.
